Max Payne Out on October 17th, 2008

Directed By John Moore
Written By Beau Thorne

Starring
Mark Wahlberg
Mila Kunis
Beau Bridges
Ludacris

Of all the video games I’ve played (and that’s… too many), there are only a handful that I thought would make better movies than video games. MAX PAYNE is probably at the top of that list. The games were heavy on narrative and had pretty cool story lines, enough to the point where you might as well have been watching a flick.

If you want the MAX PAYNE experience without the hurting thumbs, you’re in luck. Mark Wahlberg looks to have fit nicely into the gritty role, and this movie looks fun to me. I’m digging the tone… very CONSTANTINE meets SIN CITY.

MAX PAYNE hits theaters on October 17th.

Bolt Out on November 21, 2008

Directed By Byron Howard, Chris Williams
Written By Chris Sanders

Starring
John Travolta
Miley Cyrus

The newest computer-animated movie from Disney doesn’t have a Pixar logo on it. This fact comes out of a long and complicated past between the two that has since been ironed out, but during that time, Disney started their own computer-animation department. So this one’s all Disney.

BOLT is the story of a dog (voiced by John Travolta) who has super abilities… on TV. When he’s separated from his real-life owner (voiced by Miley Cyrus, no brainer Disney), he has to dig deep and rely on regular doggie-strength and a little help from his new friends to get the job done.

Sigh… not a Pixar movie. However, Chris Sanders, the guy who wrote this, did work on the stories for ALLADIN and THE LION KING, so maybe this one’s got something. See what you think.

BOLT opens November 21st.

The Soloist Out on November 21st, 2008

Directed By Joe Wright
Written By Susannah Grant

Starring
Robert Downey Jr.
Jamie Foxx
Catherine Keener

Robert Downey Jr. is back, bigtime. Everybody knows that. Everybody, that is, besides this one little metal dude called Oscar. So it was a good call on R-Down’s part to do THE SOLOIST, in which he stars alongside Jamie Foxx as a journalist who stumbles upon an incredible story in the form of one very gifted, very troubled musician (played by Foxx).

Seriously, I predict (lots of people are predicting) this movie will make a splash at the awards, and I think that was part of the intention going in, but it really does look like a good movie.

It’s also based on a true story for added fuzzy feelings. Catch the trailer after the jump.

THE SOLOIST hits theaters on November 21st.

The International Out on February 13th, 2009

Directed By Tom Tykwer
Written By Eric Singer

Starring
Clive Owen
Naomi Watts

Clive Owen stars in THE INTERNATIONAL as an Interpol agent who tries to take down a corrupt bank for their involvement in a bunch of bad stuff like arms dealing and murder and other activities that are much too gangsta for an international bank.

Also features Naomi Watts, and apparently a healthy dose of interesting architecture. Hit the watch link below for the trailer.

THE INTERNATIONAL opens February 13th, 2009.

Fast and Furious Out on June 5th, 2009

Directed By Justin Lin
Written By Chris Morgan

Starring
Paul Walker
Vin Diesel
Michelle Rodriguez
Jordana Brewster

Universal is back for one more glorious dip into the F&F money barrel, and this time they tried to stay pretty faithful to their original formula. Original cast, original truck-heisting scene, even the original title is back (sans “the”).

This time around, Brian and Dom (that’s Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, respectively) are united by a common enemy. Also returning from the original installment are Michelle Rodriguez (meh) and Jordana Brewster (yowzah).

Expect a full trailer in the coming months, but for now you can see the teaser after the jump.

FAST AND FURIOUS starts June 5th, 2009.
