Waltz With Bashir Out on December 26th, 2008

Directed By Ari Folman
Written By Ari Folman

Starring
Ron Ben-Yishai
Ronny Dayag
Ari Folman

WALTZ WITH BASHIR is an acclaimed animated documentary about director Ari Folman’s search for his own memories of the time around the 1982 invasion of Lebanon.

Pretty cool style, and an intriguing premise. You have to hand it to the guy. Instead of 90 minutes of some old guy trying to remember things and talk about them, you’ve got this surreal, really cool looking, engaging movie.

Looks like a cool cinematic experience. Right now WALTZ WITH BASHIR is set to release in LA and New York on December 26th. Hit the watch button below for the trailer.

The trailer just popped up over at Apple for a thriller called SPLINTER, in which a couple on a camping trip is carjacked by an escaped convict. They find themselves in a gas station (which is, you know, good for the film budget, just saying) by a splinter-like parasite that is spreading all over the place. See the trailer after the jump.

Repo! The Genetic Opera Out on November 7th, 2008

Directed By Darren Lynn Bousman
Written By Darren Smith, Terrance Zdunich

Starring
Anthony Head
Paul Sorvino
Alexa Vega
Paris Hilton

Whoa. So, apparently, there was this rock opera that sort of grew from a 10-minute performance in LA clubs into a sold-out New York production into a movie that looks wicked interesting. And by that I mean it looks wicked, and also interesting.

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA is set in the future, when organ failure is rampant, and we have begun buying expensive replacement organs from the ‘GeneCo’ corporation. What happens when you fall behind on your liver payments? They send legal assassins after you to repo you liver, that’s what.

Also, Paris Hilton has a role in here somewhere. Kind of works.

Seriously, I’m not sure I’m ready to wrap my head around this thing, but it sure seems original. Watch the madness after the jump.

REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA opens November 7th.

Frost / Nixon Out on December 26th, 2008

Directed By Ron Howard
Written By Peter Morgan

Starring
Frank Langella
Michael Sheen
Rebecca Hall
Toby Jones

This movie really looks like it came together well. FROST / NIXON started as a play, and the movie has kept the original writer and cast from the stageplay.

It was reported that a lot of directors wanted this project, from Scorsese to Clooney. Eventually Ron Howard won the seat, and he insisted on keeping Frank Langella and Michael Sheen to play Nixon and Frost, respectively.

Also appearing are Sam Rockwell and Kevin Bacon. See the trailer after the jump.

FROST / NIXON opens in theaters December 26th.
